This hands-on seminar style class will include detailed information on basic\, advanced and unorthodox techniques. Areas of focus will include soldering\, expanded flex shaft utilization\, melting\, manipulation and pouring small ingots\, cold connecting and some alternative approaches to the incorporation of stones and small objects. Some solutions to the nuts and bolts problems of the studio space itself will be addressed. Students are encouraged to bring their jewelry nightmares and problem pieces. Students MUST be able to solder unattended and have a functional familiarity with tools including rolling mill\, disc cutter\, flex shaft and buffing machine.\n \n BIO: Andy Cooperman is a metal smith\, writer\, and teacher who lives in Seattle\, WA. His work is featured in galleries nationwide. He is a past recipient of a WESTAF/NEA Fellowship\, and has recently taught as a visiting lecturer at the University of Washington. His work can be found in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum and appeared most recently in the exhibitions The Art of Gold and Metalisms and the books Art Jewelry Today\, 1000 Rings and The Penland Book of Jewelry.\n \n Please visit his website.
