General Information

The Gold Canyon Arts Festival is a 1-day event held on the 4^th Saturday of January each year. The sponsor of the event is the Gold Canyon Arts Council. This year’s Festival will again be held on the grounds of the United Methodist Church at 6640 S. King’s Ranch Rd. in Gold Canyon. This venue offers extensive parking and good visibility. Typically 80 artists show their work. Last year’s attendance was 3,500 during the Festival hours of 9 AM to 4 PM. Artist spaces are 10 ft X 10 ft and cost $45. The use of tents is strongly encouraged but not required. Restrooms are available inside the church. Complimentary early morning coffee and assistance setting up and taking down are available on request.

The Festival also features food vendors and musical entertainment throughout the day. Artist Hospitality volunteers are available to sign you in, help you find your assigned space and “tent sit” to allow you to take breaks during the day.

Jury

All artists will be juried into the show.

Categories: Your submitted work will be juried in one of the following categories:

Drawing

Painting

Photography

Clay

Metalwork

Glass

Wood

Jewelry

Mixed media

Fabric/fiber

Leather

If your work is not described by the above, please submit for special consideration (see the application form). You may submit in more than one category but you may sell your work at the Festival only in those categories approved by the jury.

October 1, 2011 - Call to Artists and Application forms

November 1, 2011 – Reminder Call to Artists

November 28, 2011 – Deadline for receipt of submitted work.

December 15 – Notification to applicants re jury decision on or before this date.

What to Submit:

Please submit four 4 in X 6 in glossy photographs typical of the work you wish to display or show at the festival. If you plan to sell in more than one category, please submit four photographs of each type. All photographs must be identified on the back with your name, the category for jurying and (optional) the name of the work. Electronic submission of photographs of work by email is also acceptable but be sure to indicate in the email text your name and the category of your submission. It will be easier for the jury if you send separate emails of photos for each category you are submitting – for example, one email with pictures of your paintings and another email with pictures of your ceramics.

If you are not accepted into the show, your check will be returned to you by regular mail after Dec 15, 2011.

Arizona Sales Tax

Artists retailing their work to the public at this event are responsible for displaying their TPT sales tax license as required by state law. If you do not yet have one, information about applying for an AZ TPT license may be found at www.azdor.gov. Click on the “Forms” tab at the top of the page, then click on “TPT” and fill out the short form application (10759). The fee is $12.

Terms and Conditions

Certain important terms and conditions apply to artists showing at the Gold Canyon Arts Festival. These are listed on the application form and require your signed agreement to be admitted to the show.

Green Etching With NC Black

Galvanic etching is an electrolytic process, the principles of which have been known since the early 19th
century, and the original process was patented in 1840 and called electro-etching.

This workshop will demonstrate the galvanic process on a small scale for studio applications. Students will
learn to electrically etch with minerals bronze, copper, and sterling silver. This is the ONLY non-industrial
etching technique available that allows All the etched silver material to be recovered. The projects in this class include several image transfer methods as well as resists and intaglio techniques that will be used to create several etched bracelet blanks. After students etch a bracelet blank in each material, they will then learn to anticlastically raise them into cuff bracelets using NC BLACK Co's end hook stakes and mallets.

Saturday and Sunday, November 12-13 9am-5pm

Opportunity to exhibit in AZ Art Alliance Gallery

Members of the ADC have an opportunity to exhibit their work at AZ Art Alliance (AAA) art gallery. Each member art league is given an opportunity to exhibit yearly at the AAA art gallery. We have been fortunate to get our show scheduled at the same time as the AAA holiday show. Our "mini-show" is scheduled for November 30 - December 23. In other words, this is NOT part of the AAA holiday show, but it is concurrent with the holiday show. There will be a reception and many shoppers at the gallery during this time! The gallery is located at the Indian Bend Pavillions shopping center in Scottsdale, located at Indian Bend Rd and hwy 101. The AAA web site is www.azartalliance.com

For our "mini-show", we are assigned a limited space - the last alcove on the left with the mirror on the wall. The AAA is allowing us to use the locking jewelry case in the alcove. The jewelry case is 48" vertical and 50" in length. So, the same rules do NOT apply as if it were the holiday show. Therefore, ADC members do NOT have to be AAA juried. It's open to ALL ADC members who want to put their jewelry or small 3D art in the locking case.

There is NO FEE to participate....but the AAA takes 30% of the sale, and does the payment process. (You do not need a sales license or credit card merchant account). Participating artists will need to volunteer some time to be at the show and help out, and sign a "Hold Harmless" agreement to the AAA. Call for Entries: $5,000 Raphael Prize for Excellence in Contemporary Craft

We are pleased to announce a call for entries for the 2011 Elizabeth R. Raphael Founder’s Prize, a $5,000 cash prize plus award. Presented in conjunction with a juried exhibition at the Society for Contemporary Craft (SCC), a corresponding catalogue and a feature video on the winning artist, the biennial prize is funded by the daughters of Elizabeth R. Raphael, the founder of SCC and a nationally known figure in the contemporary art scene for several decades.

This year’s prize will be awarded in the category of small metals and jewelry, on the basis of an entry that addresses the theme of “transformation.” Artists are asked to submit Mac compatible CD with 4 images, CV, support materials and $45 application fee to SCC by June 3, 2011. AZ Art Alliance Oppurtunities

The AZ Art Alliance (AAA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and the ADC is a member art league.

The AAA Spring Show, will be MARCH 3 - APRIL 3, 2011. www.azartalliance.com

Show hours are 10 AM - 5 PM, with an ARTIST RECEPTION MARCH 5, 5-8 PM at the AAA gallery. The gallery is 6,600 sq. ft and is located at The Scottsdale Pavilions shopping center, 9011 E. Indian Bend, Suite E-1, Scottsdale, AZ. (on the south side of the street, next to the Sports Authority)

This year a portion of the gallery space will be used to show art that promotes the 250th Anniversary of veterinary medicine. The AZ Veterinary Medical Association is providing $2011. prize money. This "theme related" juried art competition is OPEN TO ARTISTS STATEWIDE. You do not need to be a juried AAA member to be in the veterinary portion of the exhibit, but you must follow their guidelines for animal themes. The entry should be in by February 15, and the entry form is online.

To be in the AAA portion of the show, you will need to be a juried member of the AAA. This part is NOT a themed exhibit. The NEXT DEADLINE to become a juried AAA member is January 31. The jury committee meets every four months. Please see the AAA web site for the jury form, and the show prospectus. Please contact your ADC rep Alyce Tartell, at alycenow@yahoo.com before February 15, so we know how many spaces to reserve for the ADC.

The fee for the Spring show is $50. per space. View the prospectus for info on the size of the space provided. Artists are also required to volunteer some time and give 30% of the sale price to the AAA if a piece is sold. For more information about the AAA, please see their web site. All AZ Clay Juried Exhibition Call for Entries

The AZ CLAY Association is sponsoring its annual juried exhibition, which is open to all clay artists 18 years of age or older who reside in Arizona. The show will be held at The Bead Museum in Glendale AZ from April 8 - 24, 2010 . You may enter up to 3 works on a CD with 3 views of each work. Detailed info on entering is in the prospectus. The deadline for postmarked entries is March 19. Acceptances will be mailed March 26. The opening reception is Thursday April 8th from 6pm to 8pm. Cash prizes will be awarded and there wiil be an Emerging Artist Award given. Jurors are Jan Peterson and David Tooker. For prospectus, go to arizonaclay.org. I'd like to invite you to visit my booth at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show Feb 12 through 15, 2009.

This show is at the Tucson Convention Center (100 South Church Avenue) and I'll be in the Arena. In addition to my one-of-a-kind jewelry I'll have a Roman glass jewelry line and lots of cabochons. I hope you'll be able to stop by when you visit the show.

Hours are 10 to 6 everyday except the 15th when we close at 5:00 PM.

Active and retired military and their dependents with military ID are admitted free of charge on Saturday, February 14, "Military Appreciation Day".

Otherwise, admission is $8.25 plus a $1.00 Tucson Convention Center ticket tax. Children 14 years and under are free with a paying adult.
