Linda Darty is head of the metals program and Professor of Metalworking and Enameling in the School of Art at East Carolina  University. She is a former Penland trustee and a former board member of the Enamellists Society. She has an extensive national and international exhibition record and frequently teaches workshops on contemporary metal and enameling techniques. She is the author of The Art of Enameling (2004). In 2003 she received The Lifetime Achievement Award from the Enamellist Society, an international organization, celebrating her work as an enamellist artist and teacher.

Contemporary Enameling Techniques: Gain a clear understanding of how to work with glass on metal in ways that relate to the student’s personal design concepts. A variety of enameling techniques such as cloisonné, champleve and liquid enamel will be demonstrated, with the primary focus on color. Create interesting surfaces through layering transparent and opaque colors and special effects with foil, under glazes, over glazes, acrylic, watercolor enamels and traditional painting enamels. Demonstrations will cover enameling on both flat and formed pieces. Some metal fabrication techniques as related to enameling will be covered.
